How to Change the Oil on a 2025 Cadillac XT5 (2.0L Turbo)

If you purchased an XT5 and you want to service it yourself, you have come to the right place. You can change your own oil in the XT5. It will take about a half hour and even shorter once you do it once. It's very easy and you do NOT need to jack up your car. Step-by-Step Instructions

1. You do not need to raise the vehicle. You can reach under the front bumper and access the oil plug and oil filter. You can raise the vehicle if you prefer.

2. Remove access panel by removing the 4 screws holding it. You will use the 7 mm socket.

1. Drain oil by removing the plastic drain plug using the 3/8" ratchet with the small extension. Be sure drain plan is placed under it as you only give the drain plug a half turn to remove. You can remove oil fill cap to allow oil to drain faster. Once oil has drained, replace the oil plug. If your plug is damaged or you see oil leaking on plastic cover replace it (link above).

2. Using the oil filter wrench, loosen the oil filter. Once loose you can spin off by hand. Be sure oil pan is below it as you will have more oil run out when oil filter removed.

3. Apply oil to the seal of your new oil filter and thread it on carefully. Once it is snug, give a 1/4 turn hand tight.

4. Replace the plastic trim panel and reinstall the 4 screws gently tightening them gently. Do not overtighten or you will strip the holes in plastic.

5. Add oil and measure level using dipstick. You will likely add between 4.5 to 5.3 quarts.

6. To reset oil life, start the vehicle and using the down arrow on the right side of steering wheel scroll down through vehicle diagnostics until you get to oil life screen. Hold the select button until you hear it beep. Your oil life will reset to 100%.

Common Mistakes

• Overfilling. Be sure to add slowly using your dipstick to ultimately determine how much oil to add.

• Wrong oil. Be sure to use 0W-20

• Cross-threading. Take your time threading oil plug and oil filter. Turn counter clockwise until you feel the filter click into threads. Filter should spin on easy if you threaded correctly!
